Music Culture

My music culture has many different parts, many different sides. My music culture constantly changes depending on what I'm doing or who I'm with. With certain friends my music culture may be more upbeat, dance inspiring, or even country. With other friends, however, it shifts to mellow, reggae style music. When I'm studying relaxing, soft side comes up, but when I work out I try to create a peppy, intense culture. Generally, however, my music culture is similar to my personality and the way I interact with society, which is very relaxed and laid back. I guess this reflects my social interactions somewhat, but it also shapes and creates them. I can relate better to people who who have similar values to mine, and who may also share my musical tastes. The ways that I have learned about the music I listen to include my friends, as well as public sources like FM radio or Pandora. I'm constantly paying attention to my friends music, and I acquire much of my music through CDs they burn for me. One example of this is The Expendables, a group I was introduced to by one of my good friends. I had always loved Sublime, and was thrilled when he introduced me to a similar existing group. I also find a lot of music through FM radio because, although it may not be the very best music out there, keeping up popular music and rap can create connections with people you don't know through a shared knowledge of that music. My favorite way to find new music I love is through services like Pandora where I can find more obscure music that goes along with my existing tastes.

  1. It's funny how different groups of friends or social events bring about different music styles. Similar to you, at different times/events I tend to listen to different music that seems more appropriate to that situation.

  2. I believe you are right, and that a lot of people would also agree that their music culture changes on their surroundings. Such as in PCB i listen to a lot of rap, but as for LC where i went my senior year i listen to country. The great thing is that every body around you helps to influence you not only as a person, but your culture and music too.
